Y6 Online Safety

14th February 2020

Y6 Safer Internet Day

We shared a picture story which wasn't as simple as we first thought. It had lots of messages in it relating to how we behave online. It made us think.

The story was Troll Stinks by Jeanne Willis. It was about 2 goats who found the Troll's phone and should have told an adult that they have found it, but instead they texted rude messages and put photos of a mean troll online. This is called cyberbullying.

We discussed how this would make us feel and thought that the Trolls were very wrong in what they did. As the story went on, the goats went to visit the Troll to try and take a picture of him but instead they found a very upset young child who didn’t know why people were bullying her. We talked about if this happened to you, you must tell an adult and not keep it a secret. The goats did apologise to the young Troll and they played a Making Friends game.

This assembly led us to talk about responsibilities online and the need to use our SMART rules when online.
