P.E., School Sport and Physical Activity

Our School Mission Statement

We strive to follow Christ’s example to always do our best. Our pupils belong to a caring, sharing community which promotes learning through respect and love for all through our shared Catholic faith.

Physical activity not only improves physical health, mental wellbeing and concentration, but also promotes correct growth and development in children. Exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and social interactions. Physical Education provides a wealth of opportunities for children to develop spiritual, moral, social, cultural (SMSC) and British Values; it develops the whole person.

PE Aims and Objectives

Pupils will be taught to:

  1. Be successful learners, who enjoy learning, making progress and achieving.
  2. Be confident individuals, who understand how to live safe, healthy and fulfilled lives.
  3. Be responsible citizens, who make a positive contribution to society.
  4. Develop an appreciation of the School Games Values: honesty, passion, self-belief, respect, determination and teamwork.
  5. Develop psychomotor skills, strength and stamina.
  6. Develop an appreciation of skilful and creative performance across a variety of activities.
We love PE and sport at St. Wilfrid's!

Each week, in Merit Assembly, children are invited to bring in sports awards they have achieved in clubs outside of school, and one child or team is chosen to be presented with the Sports Award!

Did you know children need to aim to be active for 60 minutes every day? There are lots of ways you can help your child to stay active:
  • Encourage them to compete in Personal Challenges (how many times can you do a bunny hop in 20 seconds?) or Super 60 Squad Competitions.
  • Sign them up for an after-school club. These run from Tuesday to Friday, and usually change every half term, so make sure you check the letters your child brings home. Clubs are usually very popular so be sure to bring your consent form back promptly!
  • Join in with some well-known activities, such as Cosmic Kids Yoga or Just Dance.
It is our aim to always show The School Games Values in PE and Sport.
The School Games Values are RespectHonesty, Determination, Teamwork, Self-Belief and Passion.
