Sports for Schools

25th September 2018

Early in the Autumn Term, St Wilfrid's had the pleasure to welcome Commonwealth Athlete, Archer and Champion, Danielle Brown to our school.

Danielle and the 'Sports for Schools' Sportivator Belinda, put our children, and staff, through their paces in a fitness circuit, to help raise money for new sports equipment in school.

Children from Year 6 down to Reception participated, and everyone who took part in the circuits enjoyed themselves and loved being pushed to their limits.

We were also treated to an assembly led by Danielle, where the children learnt how she was diagnosed with reflex sympathetic dystrophy at a young age but how this did not deter her away from her love for sport.  Danielle competed in the Paralympic Games in Beijing and London, where she won Gold for Great Britain in the Archery, and she also competed in the able bodied category at the Commonwealth games and won medals there too.

The children and staff came away with enthusiasm and inspiration, and the knowledge that no matter what their backgrounds are that #wecan achieve our goals and dreams.
